It's not really intended to run as non-root.
if it were running as non-root it would need some way to promote itself
to root to do most of its operations since they require root.
I guess one way of going about it would be to have a listener on the
network running as a user and the operating daemon running as root.
If anyone wants to start work on that I think it would be a fine idea.
